HOPE COUNTS WHEN ACCOUNTABILITY FOLLOWS
The Hope Index is a youth-designed research framework that has been engineers to measure hope, confidence, trust, and preparedness among young Australians inheriting todays world.
It captures your perceptions of governing accountability on to their obligations and responsibilities to human rights. It is also designed to capture your political voice and participation, and your belief in our decision makers commitment to the protection of human rights.
By using a mixed-methods approach, this survey collected both qualitative and quantitative data (scale-based responses) and self-reported responses (open responses) to provide an in-depth understanding of how young Australian's view their future, our governments role in protecting human rights, and your ability to affect/influence change.

UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW
The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process under the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States. The UPR not only highlights the challenges we face, but also promote actionable solutions. It is one of the few opportunities we are able to set the agenda for government accountability and address the most important human rights issues.
Think of the UPR as a peer-review report card sent to the United Nations Human Rights Council on how Australia and its decision makers have:
Been accountable to the promises and commitments they agreed to in the last reporting cycle (2020);
Actively listened to and fairly represented the most vulnerable of our communities
Been acting in the best interest of protecting the dignity and rights all of us are born free and equal with.
Young people play a crucial role in providing independent information through reports and surveys such as this one, which can influence recommendations made to our decision makers.
the young australians UPR taskforce
The Young Australians UPR Taskforce is a national, youth-led coalition formed to advance human rights accountability through the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
Led by Voices of Influence Australia, Amnesty International Australia and the Young Diplomats Society, the Taskforce combines strategic leadership with a broad, participatory network of youth-led organisations. It empowers young Australians to shape national advocacy priorities, challenge systemic injustice, and engage directly with international human rights mechanisms.
The Taskforce empowers young Australians to shape policy, demand action, and ensure their voices are central to national and international accountability processes.
